Notes to Self

Updated: Feb 12, 2021

When the going gets tough, the tough make their own fun...

...via leaving themselves little notes, like the above. I had been writing early bits of book three of The Shapeshifters of the Beau Monde by hand: something unexpected came out of my pen, which is always gratifying and I had to stop and leave myself a billet-doux.

This is how I've begun work on each novel: I scatter some thoughts in a word doc and print out the pages, and then I sit and write in longhand. I love writing in longhand — like, if I had to do the whole thing in a notebook: no — and I love transcribing into the scattered-thoughts-doc, which magically becomes a manuscript behind my back.

“ It's the sort of shouting a cheerleader would do, though, rather than the football coach.”

I am so thoroughly enjoying writing this series, and I think it's down to not setting roadblocks for myself but rather dropping myself notes and directives — typed in all caps, it has to be said, like I am yelling. It's the sort of shouting a cheerleader would do, though, rather than the football coach. I can't wait to post a few once A Wolf in Duke's Clothing premieres; they're along the lines of GO GO GO COME BACK TO THIS IT'S OKAY YOU'RE GRAND GO GO.

SIS BOOM BAH.

I look forward to sharing some screengrabs of the more ridiculous notes — I hope you will find them fun!
